Enabling Support for Level 3 Payment Information
Level 3 payment information provides detailed information about the overall order and individual line item(s) being purchased.
Level 3 payment information consists of order level data and item data.
Note: The underlying processor used for your transactions must also support Level 3 payment information. If you are using a legacy processor that does not support Level 3 payment information you should not enable this feature.
Benefits of Including Level 3 Payment Information
Including level 3 payment information in your transaction data provides the following benefits:
- Could potentially lower processing fees for the merchant.
- Consumer could get an itemized receipt in their credit card bill (subject to how the credit card company presents the data to the consumer.)
- Merchants tend to get fewer chargebacks by consumers who contest a bill. Many times a consumer sees a charge but doesn’t recall what it is. If the consumer sees a listing of the item(s) purchased, then he or she will be less likely to attempt a chargeback.
- In the rare case of a charge getting logged in the gateway but not getting written to netFORUM, the merchant can at least try to recreate what the consumer bought because there will be a record of it in the L3 data in the gateway. Without that data, the merchant will just see a charge amount but not know what it’s for.
To enable support for Level 3 payment information, use the following steps:
Level 2 payment information must be enabled before you can enable Level 3 payment information.
